    Football Database Development

Posted 15 years 4 months ago
    • Hi there

I apologise in advance if you do not want to field a question like this.... But I have trawled the net and cannot find good basic info about which path to take and thought I would ask the people who I know are experts...

But I was wondering what I can do to integrate a football player, fixture, results and tables database to Joomla?

I’d like an effective means of possibly developing and building a massive database with such content which presents info in Joomla.

Are you aware of any products?

Should I really turn to Microsoft sharepoint?

      Cheers!

      Reg

    • You could search for a component that will do what you want on the JED.

If there isn't one, you could post in The Marketplace or on a site such as joomlancers.com to hire a coder that can help you.

    • Cheers JEM

I did have a look before. My problem is that I have little database knowledge and next to no ide aof how to get this sort of thing into Joomla.

I'm having a look at a component called Flexicontent. It has custom templating and multi categorisation. I might work well as a work around of sorts. I'll also have a look at K2 to see what flexibility this offers.

What I am really after however is something that trackes results, scores, scorers - keeps stats and then presents them on the applicable page automatically.

Any further feedback would be most appreciated!

      Cheers

    • What I suggest is searching posting on the Flexicontent website and seeing if the component can do what you want or need.

What you are looking for is well above the template level.

    • Do you have a source of these statistics from which you are pulling, or did you plan to do the data entry manually to get the statistics in the db?

When it comes to 'massive databases' and manipulating data, I would argue that Fabrik ( www.fabrikar.com ) is hands down the most powerful...just wondering how you plan on getting the data in. Once in, however, Fabrik is what you need. ;)

    • Hi terp

      thanks for your response!

the data will be manually input and added to over time.

unfortunately it appears that there is nothing out there that would give me a quick-butt database like soccernet...

however, i have had a look at fabrikar.com and it's pretty damn cool! i might follow this path, although it looks like i might have to throw a lot of time into it so paying someone else might be the best thing to do.

      thanks for your help guys

There is a slight learning curve to do much more advanced db work, but you don't have to learn php/sql/et al, just how to manipulate fabrik....once you get your head around it, it's quite easy and literally nothing it can't do date-wise. ;)

Feel free to fire any questions my way, or ask in the Fabrik forums...
