    Joomla upgrade help

Posted 15 years 2 months ago
    • I am attempting to upgrade a website that's on Versitality III from Joomla 1.0.13 to Joomla 1.5.
      www.visionomics.com

I've done a Joomla 1.0 to 1.5 upgrade once before but that was on a site that did not have a lot of third party components. This one has a lot.
I used this last time: docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_1.0.x_to_1.5_Stable

I want to make sure I go into this project prepared. Are there any resources or guides that can help? Are there any components that make this task easier?

Is there a way to upgrade the template from the 1.0 to 1.5 version without having to redo all the theme level customizations?

      Any help is sincerely appreciated.

      Thanks,
      Srini

    • Also, just so I understand this right, after the 1.5 site is up, the 1.5 version of the template will have to be manually installed on it and configured etc. right? The 1.0 template has several customizations to the template. I assume all those will have to be manually recreated?

    • It asks to install Joomla 1.5 on a new folder. My current Joomla install is on the root folder public_html/
If I install the new site at public_html/newsite then after the upgrade is complete, what will I need to do to point the www.visionomics.com domain to this new folder instead of the root folder?
      Sort of...but here's what I would do.

      1. Create a back up of your current site using Joomlapack
      2. Install That back up (Still 1.0) in a subdomain
      3. Run your updgrade patches there, make sure you check for component upgrade packages
      4. Delete anything that's not compatible / Copy it to text somewhere
      5. Do the upgrade
      6. Install it on another subdomain
      7. Make all of you template and component adjustments until you are happy with it
      8. Back it up using joomlapack
      9. Install it in your html folder.
      10. Pray

      Hope that helps

This way you have a back up at all restore points (before, during and after).

That's what I've used in the past and has worked. Unless one of the mods has a better system.

    • Thanks Richard,

Your approach was spot on! I am now at the point where the 1.5 site is up with all the content but none of the add-ons or the theme.

Regarding sh404sef, when I set up the 1.5 version of the component with the upgraded site, will the URL's be the exact same as the old ones? I don't want to break any links pointing to pages in the old site. Anything I should do to ensure that?

    • Hmm....they "should" remain the same as long as you use the same parameters. Show section, category etc.

If you enable sh404 you should be able to see pretty quickly if they are going to be the same.

If not, you're going to have to add them to the aliases in sh404. Which may wind up being a pain.

    • yay!! Upgrade almost done.

A few small problems and I am hoping these will be like a breeze for you guys:

      1. I am using style1. For some reason, I am unable to upload any new images or change file permissions for any files or folders within the template. It's really strange. The FTP user I am logged in with has full rights. And I am able to change permissions on other Joomla folders, Just not the rt_versatitlity_iii_j15 directory or any of its subdirectories/files. What am I missing?

      2. How do I get rid of the control panel about the header?

      3. How do I get rid of the RocketTheme icon in the footer. It doesn't seem to be in index.php file under the rt_versatility_iii_j15 folder. Where is it coming from?

      Thanks!
