Church wants to talk to me about website?

  • Church wants to talk to me about website?

    • I am not a designer, have done @ 10 sites in the past 6 years for non profit or schools, html and css, not joomla all for free. I have worked now with Joomla for a little over a year and have a lot more to learn. My church (4 or 5 thousand members) called me tonight wanting to talk to me about redoing their website which is awful they have paid thousands over the last couple of years.

Do I do it? Do I charge(they have the money)? How much if so? What are some of the things to consider before doing this? Is it more headache than its worth?

Any help or ideas would be deeply be appreciated! The only reason I am considering doing it, is that I have taken a 24% pay cut and trying to find something to help make a little extra money.

      Thanks,
      Kent

    • 90% of my work is non-profit and churches. I say do it, but do it right, all the rest of your questions you will have to work out what you need pay wise for it, but don't do it for free unless you are ok with a project that will never end. I do a lot of "ministry" projects

And there is your answer, charge them. They have spent thousands already for a crap site, may as well pay a bit more for a "real" site.

About half the time that I do "free" sites, it ends up biting me in the rear. Some folks just do not appreciate work done for them for free. The old adage, "no good deed goes unpunished", often applies to sites done for free I have discovered.

Exactly what a I meant by not getting paid for a site that will never end. Every free site I have ever done has been taken advantage of, because they dont get the sense of how much time it takes to actually do it. If you dont charge, its almost like they think it takes 10 minutes to setup.

I typically charge $1500-$5000K for church sites.
