Can I have another temlate in a sub-domain?

  • Can I have another temlate in a sub-domain?

Posted 15 years 1 month ago
    • Is it possible to set up a site and have a sub-domin with another template instead of the home site? Example, a church site has one template but inside the church site you want the youth department to have another style or template, is this possible?

      Thanks,
      Kent

    • Install another template and assign different men items to different templates, no need to create a sub-domain.

    • Thanks Jem, but how do I assign menu to a different template? Sorry if this is a no brainer but I don't know how to do that. I may have to have a sub domain parked so they can have their own like www.youth.com instead of the church name.

      Thanks,
      Kent

    • Install another template (or a copy of your template).

In the Template Manager, you have a default template.

If you want to assign different menus to a different template, choose a template besides the default.

Then in Menu Assignments, choose Select from List, and choose the menus you want to be displayed with that template.

Also note, if you want to have sub-domains, that requires another install of Joomla.

So, the easiest way is to assign different menus to different templates, as opposed to creating a whole new site on a sub-domain.

    • Thanks Jem, my thougt is if I get the job to do my churchs site I am going to purchase the developers license, don't really know which template I will use, this is going to be new to me to do this as a business. I get asked every week to do sites from individual to big business so I am going to try to do some sites to make up for my 24% pay cut at work.

      Thanks for all your help!

    • Best of luck, Kent.

IMHO, I'd guide your clients towards using the latest templates, the ones using the Gantry framework, in particular, Crystalline because it's so easy to customize the colors for the site so easily.

    • I sure will, any advice you want to give I'll listen, I spend a lot of time on here just reading. I am so thankful for all the help people are willing to give on here, even like me starting a business everybody is willing to share and help out even though they are in the same business. Thanks again for all your help!
