Java or Mootools disabled on entire site?

Posted 15 years 1 month ago
    • Hi

I have a slight problem with a site. buildingphysics.co.za/ The JavaScript and MooTools seems to be (for lack of a better term) deactivated. The site was working perfectly for the last three months.

      The Background:
There was a problem with the site the other day; when going to the site it was as if the entire site’s template was stripped away. (content was still accessible, just no styling/formatting. The Webmaster contacted the Host and requested that the file permissions be restored.
Site is ‘working’ for now, however the problem seems to be that no Javascript/ MooTools are accessible. They are loaded, just not running.

      Current Problem:
The issue is that 1) All modules using Java are not functioning correctly. 2) In the Back-end, I have managed to get the top menus working again, however I cannot get the second tier menu items to work (i.e. Save, Accept, Cancel items do not work.)

What I have done so far:
      Tried all the little tricks suggested at Joomla.org;
Changed file permissions in media/js folder.
Deleted and re-uploaded a fresh copy from the original Joomla 1.5.15 package.
Went nuts with Chmod 777 / 775 in the Administrator / Plugin and Module folders.

      Help:
If anyone can help or has any other ideas, please let me know. I really have to get this sorted ASAP.

      Thanks in advance. :cheesy:

    • As far as the template being 'stripped away' this is usually caused by improperly configured SEF.

But now the front end looks fine, still a problem on the back end?
    • Thanks,

    • Hi Jem

Why suddenly after around threem months of running fine? Strange. Nothing has been done or changed on the site.

On the front end; the RokMiniNews does not show or collapse, at all.

And as for the back-end; it still does not operate correctly. (I would be happy to pm you the login details so that you can see for yourself.)

Please let me know. Thanks for your help.

    • Hi Nick,

Mootools isn't disabled on your site otherwise your menu wouldn't work. Can you provide a super administrator login please by PM so I can take a further look to see what the conflict is?

    • So... just as an update; The problem could not be resolved using the standard ways.(i.e. FireBug, switching the plugins/ componets / modules on and off, re-uploading fresh files ect)

Eventually what was decided was to delete everything (including the DB) and restore from a server backup. The really strange thing is, is that we had to use at least three backups in order to find one that was not affected by this problem. But, for now, it seems to have worked. :D

Big thanks to Brian for all his help. :)
