Oooh, that is very bad!
I don't think it is a good idea.
It will mean that we will not be able to use the gantry system ...
Actually, if I had known this before we would not have become a club member!

gantry is such an amazing framework and all the included features and advantages greatly outweigh the 960px fixed width.
make sure to get to know all the possibilities before letting yourself be put off by this fact.

There are several frameworks using a standard like 960px, but include other choices - builded in the template - too.
Yes, it has advantages (and nothing to say about the quality of the templates themselves), but being bound to such fixations means loosing creativity and sometimes even functionality.
I would suggest to you to include variety, otherwise you will miss o ut a lot of people.
As said, we had to switch to other templates to meet our needs.
