    Multiple Categories on Frontpage

Posted 15 years 1 month ago
    • I've searched the forum and am willing to be abused if this has already been answered!

Basically I have a Section with 4 Categories. I would like to have the latest Article from each Category displayed on the Frontpage in modules User1, User2, User3, User4.

Can't seem to find a way to do it! The Main Menu > Home > Frontpage only allows 1 Category to be selected.

Please tell me I'm missing something really obvious, I'd welcome the embarrasment at this stage.

I've tried a couple of News modules but they all interfere with the CSS etc.

I just need the 4 Categories displayed simultaneously on the Front of the site!

      Many thanks in advance!

    • The template you are using? (The question really belongs in a template specific forum.)

      The component you are using?

Basically, this is the way RT components (or any other components based on the Joomla core) work, they will only pull from one Section or Category.

There's really no way (that I know of) to get one Module or Component to populate four different Users / Module positions with the content displayed as you describe.

You may have to reconsider how you plan to organize / display your content.

    • hi there,

mmm, if i understand you right then you can just do the following:

      go to your module manager...
create a new module (mod_latest) and use the first section/category and assign this module to user1
create a new module (mod_latest) and use the 2nd section/category and assign this module to user2
do the same for user3 and 4.

    • Hi guys, thanks for the replies!

I am using Affinity on the current site but its not really about the template, just how I show the Intro/Leading part of the most recent Article from 4-8 categories on the same page. I found a Minifrontpage extension which works well but uses it's own, adequate but not as nice as RT's, CSS etc but I'd rather keep the styling of whatever template I'm using, naturally.

Most components/modules show the last n articles from a single Category. I want to show the last Article from n Categories. Visually, not a list or anything, basically everything before the Read More tag.

    • hi again,

i would think that this requires an extension, because it is not a core functionality of joomla to display a most recent article from a certain section/category inside a module position.

unfortunately i dont know an extensions that i could recommend, but you could ask in the joomla.org forum and ofc check the joomla extensions directory.
