The good way to make updates ?

  • The good way to make updates ?

    • Hi,

I have a very simple question about updating the RT extension.

Which is the best way to do it without loosing my work ?

For example, I want to update RokNavMenu in Reaction template.

If I uninstall my old version of the module, all my menu will be delete or not ?

      In advance thanks,

      Ryo

At this point, it's really case by case, some extensions require a complete uninstall reinstall, while other allow you to update simple by uploading the files in the change log.

RokNavMenu is one of the more complicated extensions, it graduated from a 'module' to a 'component' a few versions back, so upgrading may be a bit tricky.

In any case, before any upgrade, especially a 'major one' such as your navigation system, a good backup is key in case something 'goes wrong'. That way you can always revert to was was working before.

But all in all, I suggest checking the extension you want to update on the extensions page and see if there is any documentation on upgrading, or before you proceed, search the extension forum for the extension you want to upgrade for 'upgrade' and see if there are any instructions, or start a new thread titled 'How do I upgrade from version xx to version xx?'
