    • Hello,

I am a new member here on the forum. I am also new to WP designs. I just discovered what Joomla is and what its all about and seems better then WP. Does anyone know if I can switch club memberships without having to pay an upgrade fee? I paid $50 several days ago and if I want to join Joomla, its an additional $40. Can anyone please advise? Thanx...Telan :cheesy:

    • Thanx for your reply JEM, I really appreciate it! I have already downloaded two templates so I guess I will be paying the upgrade fee, which is not a problem...I was just hoping to save myself from the upgrade fee. I already sent a message but no reply yet... :)

Please be patient, it may take a few hours, or up to 24 hours... (considering the volume of inquires, time zones, etc.)

    • Wordpress was made for 1 person blogging. Joomla is a full-blown CMS which allows a lot of people to add content.

It's up to you which one you prefer really.

    • Hi Telan,

I think it would be better if you experimented first with both Wordpress and Joomla, there is a free theme for both Joomla and Wordpress called Afterburner that you can try this with.

You could set up two sites, one with a standard joomla installation and another one with a standard wordpress installation and follow the instructions on both the joomla and the wordpress afterburner demo installations for installing and customising the template and see which you prefer and suits your style of how you like to work.

Also if you plan on webmastering more than one site, there may be situations where a wordpress installation better suits the requirements of the website or the flexability and depth of joomla as a content management system is a far better fit.

For additional familiarisation you could also try Novus, which has been released free for both Wordpress and Joomla .

Hi Telan, you can get some very good tutorials from the Joomla site at docs.joomla.org/ - there is an excellent beginner's guide there. The site at www.theartofjoomla.com/home/19-designer/...cture-of-joomla.html has a very good introduction to the structure of Joomla - understanding how Joomla is set up helped me a lot when I was starting out.

And you will always get great help here in the forums from the Moderators and others. :D
