New Member, Mambo & Joomla plus a Forum

Posted 18 years 1 month ago
    • Hi,
I joined the club today and am very impressed with the quality of this site, excellent stuff. I have inherited a Mambo site that is woefully out of date with regard to the upgrades etc, I have spent the day upgrading to Mambo 4.5 and all has gone well. My next tack is change the template but I am having a problem fitting the site logo and name into any of the templates I think will go well with the site, e.g. Versatility 2, Pixel Perfect or Modern Business.

Whilst I sort out the image/logo issue my thought is on the next task also, this is to add a forum to the current site. My intention was to add vBulletin as I have used that succesfully before, however I note that the forums in Mambo/Joomla are often powered by SWF.

Can anyone advise on the best forum for use in Mambo/Joomla and whether it is worth switching to Joomla?.

      Thanks,
      Mickey

    • Ive never used vBulletin so i cannot comment. However, SMF is just great with Joomla!.

There really is not a real difference between Mambo or Joomla! so i do not see a reason to change unless there is a conflict somewhere

    • Thanks everyone, just one small question if someone has time to answer - if I install SMF, do I need to install anything else, I've read of a 'bridge' but wonder what that is.

      Thanks,
      Mickey

    • You only need to install a bridge if you want all your users to be on Joomla! and the forum simutaneously. Otherwise, you can have them separate. It is all dependant
