Working from mockup to final

Hi Guys,
i just have a question about a custom theme, maybe you could help me a bit further.
I have a "portal" in mind, a mixture of a magazine and city/area/travel guide. Most things is the flexibility with modules as there will be a lot on the frontpage to display different sections etc.
Right now i wasnt able to find a RT template based on Gantry which could offer all this. But maybe im thinking totally in the wrong way. If there is anyone, please let me know.
So no im thinking about a own template which should be based on gantry through the flexibility on placing all the modules. I would hire a friend of mine who is very creative and also working in the design field to create a "mockup(?)" of the website. So he would build everything which does belong to the design.
Now i would like to know, what you would guess how many time someone would spend to "transfer" this to a joomla template based on gantry. Just something rough...
