Three (at least) specific areas of my site that I'd like feedback on (design, code, graphics, etc.):
Navigation on the site - we struggle with this one a lot.
CSS improvements? What looks ugly.
Any glaring errors? One starts to miss these things when the site gets too big
Additional Comments:
I learned CMS and php and css and just about everything just on this site. so as an autodidact I tend to miss things. Criticism is welcome.
Also, we use wordpress and I really want to get away from it. anyone know of a good blog joomla page i could look at and then show my bloggers to convince them to use joomla for blogging?

The drop down menus are behind the picture plugin on the home page... I think I've seen some posts on how to fix that... try a search for the fix... (or maybe someone can post a link).
Love the concept of your site.
Overall the design seems realy good, I do notice the blue used in border is not brought in to inside of the page. Bringing that blue into the page will make it feel more consistant.
You know you could use the "wrapper" to bring the wordpress blogs into the site... You win by getting everything in your Joomla site... they win because they keep wordpress... I know you don't get the control in one place for you, but it's a start. Try looking into iJoomla magizine plugin... it's not a "blog" program, but I got it for that use. The plus side is it can automaticly send out a newsletter and/or magizine wilth clips from your articles/blogs...

It looks great. Like the theme. It does work well in IE and FF so that's great.
I agree with Mr. Watson about wrapping the blog until you get it integrated. Popping off into a new window every time you click on a front page story will chase some people away. (I would leave a site doing that)

The images are great
great job to the person who chose them 
Its a very busy website but is spaced accordingly to not irriate myself
Only one suggestion, remove the green borders in the popular section, they do not do your site justice
