    • Oops, okay, I get what wmode is.

But did you do all this with custom flash programming? Or is there something that can display thumbnails like this?

    • this is the best looking RT site ive seen in a while

i nominate it for site of the month (or i would if it existed :( )

      anywho

      1 thing from me

the images at the bottom of the first page
      seem off.

by this i mean they seem streaky (there may be a better or technical word) but it seems as though the images are streaky - as in your gradients just seem like bars of colour
      btw im using FF2

great site - and well worth the look

damn i bet your bandwidth is through the roof !

Both of us Cameron :D ; I'm testing a paid extension for Flash. For the moment it's only a test because I want to improve the flow. I want to use an external xml to load the images but I have some problems with path. I hope to solve that very soon.

Hey Craig! Many thanks for that but I think this site would not be competitive for SOTM; all the sites choosed had templates more customized...
      1 thing from me
the images at the bottom of the first page
      seem off.

I attached a screenshot. Are you talking about the ads banner with shoes? At my work, I can see correctly that image with some computers, with other computers the images is not displayed (all computers with FF) and I don't know why. Have you a direct access to internet?

What is "streaky"? My english is not good :D

The bad gradient on the images at the bottom is due to the image format. I'm using actually .gif; in a first time, I used png after that jpg. The loading time for main page was very very slow. Then I used gif at the bottom and I optimized all other images. However, I'm using now the JRE cache component and I will be able to replace all these images at the bottom with png or jpg. Thanks to remind me to do that :D

Someone can test the site with IE6 and Safari/FF for Mac please? (the site looks terrible with Safari/PC :o )

      Thanks guys!

    • by streaky i was refering to the gradient

      that was my only issue

and its not about the customisation for SOTM

      its about implementation

      i think... :P

Gradient fixed now ;) and the flow with external xml to load images too.

      Thanks Craig!

    • Hello Franck!,

i only have question for You
How did You get the whole idea of making such a portal. I can see that You've been digging in joomla, css and rockettheme for quite a long time and the effects are great. But the idea?! Great!Bingo! And You managed to do a fantastc site :) . But how did You get the channels, steams etc? Just searched the net? I don't think so ];>.

Btw, You used only fireworks for graphics(great anyway)?

Thanks Jakeeb! for your kind words. :)
The idea for a such portal is very old! But I didn't have time to build a TV portal. Few months ago, a client contacted me to make a TV portal for him and I decided to build the free TV portal in association with him. Actually, I'm alone because he pulled off the project (I think). However I will finish the version 1.0 of TVsPlanet because I love this website!
During a long time, I did a loooong list of TV channels and I have more than 1000. TVsPlanet have actually 700 online TV and I work everyday to add more TV, more countries...

For the graphics I use only Fireworks. Since I'm a member of RT, I learned a fex Fireworks but I need some effects for images and I don't know how to do it with Fireworks! I need to learn more :) Moreover I purchased some icons or used free icons.

At this time, TVsPlanet is made with joomla and I will finish this first version with joomla 1.0.12 or 1.0.13. However, I don't know if the version 2.0 will be with joomla! or not. I'm seriously thinking to use Drupal in the future particulary for this big project. The reason are: I'm tied to upgrade continuously my sites for new versions! Actually I can't upgrade to 1.0.13 or 1.5 because the incompatibility with a lot of components I'm using. Then Drupal maybe the solution for a better stability and flexibility for the next version of the site. I'm starting to learn Drupal management and programation for theme and modules...
I have other projects similars to TVsPlanet. For sure I will make the next with Drupal just for testing and see the result.

      Thx!

    • Hi again, Franck!

I only want to add that when i look on your portal, and then on the project(on paper) of mine, i feel that it is possible to build a popular portal without owning a huge web corporation ;)

The thing is that TV Portal has almost no rivals in web (poor design, quality and content). I think i also need to find some original idea like that broadcasting!

Don't be suprised,if i once PM u to ask for some help in creating some big famous portal, that will become a rival for Google :D <lol> ;D

    • Hi Heather!

Thanks for your comment! Yes, the site is more advanced now but I have a lot of work to do before reach 1000 TV. Moreover, I'm trying now to optimize the site for Search Engine and it's a very hard work :P
