    Entropy - Japan Family Guide

This is my first website so very big learning process. I don't have an IT background and there is no way I could have worked through all the problems myself. My husband is a programmer so he helped solve the many hiccups that occurred and are still occurring (he hates Joomla btw).

I realize I didn't use Entropy the way it was probably designed to be used. To be honest I had a lot of problems choosing a template. I have zero design or artistic ability and it was really difficult for me to look at a template and 'imagine' what I could do with it.

Choosing to go with v1.6 was probably a big mistake too as there are limited extensions. Since I'm a complete newbie we thought I may as well learn on the new version rather than having to relearn a year later.

I'd love some feedback, particularly if you notice something wrong.

    • すばらし!

I would 'sprinkle' a little kanji here and there... ‘hoikuen’ = 保育園 - nursery, daycare, etc

Even if you know the pronunciation, if someone tells you to go to the 'shiyakusho' = 市役所 - city office, it's nice to have the kanji to match up with the word.

      www.japanfamilyguide.com/index.php/classes-for-children

A link to a link… my preference would be to have the links on this page instead of having users need to follow to another link.

      www.japanfamilyguide.com/index.php/parks-and-playgrounds

Instead of a 2 column layout, I would go with a single one, but that’s just me…

As far as I can see, in FF3, there’s no contact form on the contact page…

In any case, totally Roks as a first site...

    • Thanks guys

Your kanji advice is good. I might ask a friend to help me with that.
A link to a link… my preference would be to have the links on this page instead of having users need to follow to another link.
I see what you mean. I will work on this. Slightly related topic -Do you think using 'contacts' is best as I've done with the kids classes, or should I list the contacts in an article as I've done here, www.japanfamilyguide.com/index.php/havin...rt-services-in-japan
The reason I'm asking is that if I do it as articles, then the benefit is use of the Related Articles module. It would be great if someone were looking at an article on tennis, then the tennis contacts would come up on the side or something.
Instead of a 2 column layout, I would go with a single one, but that’s just me…
Do you mean just on the playgrounds page, or throughout the whole site?
As far as I can see, in FF3, there’s no contact form on the contact page…
I know. Another thing I need to get to

      Thanks for all your help!!

Indeed I am. Well I was born in Istanbul but we moved to Australia when I was three. The last time I checked I was female

    • I know you know... :)

The 'Contact Us' link doesn't have a contact form...

      www.japanfamilyguide.com/index.php/contact-us

But the text reads 'You can get in touch by filling out the form below or by email'.

See screen shot... Menu is not pretty, just a 10 second test to show the contact page I was talking about. (It's the standard Joomla contact form.)

I guess the main point was the fact that the page says fill out the form below, and there wasn't one there... (In the interim, you may want to edit the text as it may be confusing...)

For the second question, the contact form will direct all contacts from the form to you, site related or not.

But, I think the way you have organized the site and set up links for other sites / contacts is just fine.

As far as the layout, it's really personal preference.

There's no right or wrong way to set up the pages (unless you have a picky client, but since it's your site, no worries)!
