    • Website URL: www.shoppertunitiesonline.com/FOC

Additional Extensions (Components, Modules, Plug ins):

      • Simple Image Rotator
      • Flex Advert
      • Article Thumbs (see People & Places Link for this example)
      • RokZoom
      • MyBlog
      • Vernod News Mailer
      • JosReplace (LOVE THIS ONE)

Custom Development: OK, so I can't leave well-enough alone. I think I went through four templates and more variations before we settled on this. I did quite a bit with "home page only" modules, to keep a single template for the home page AND the interior pages.

Any specific areas of my site that I'd like feedback on, if any: Design & Function, primarily (ok, so why not say everything?)

Additional Comments: This site is not yet live, but we are close (within days...). I'd love comments/suggestions. The huge blank spot on the home page is waiting for an ad from a local shopping center, and we are adding more ads/modules in the interior on the left as well.

    • WOAH!
That is some serious modification that you have done there. You wanted comments on design and function, they're great. Color theme is gorgeous, and you have stuck to it, without going over the top. I didn't get lost once, always knew where I was, and how to get elsewhere if need be.
I'm a bit worried about putting hand lotion in the hair, but other than that, TOP JOB!

    • Peter, I swear, it works! ;)

Thanks for the kudos. We still have a lot of functionality to add - Thyme Calendar, a Shops and Services Directory (did someone say that JReviews does not play nice with Mootools?), regular giveaways, more people to blog once we are live... oh, and 5 years of back issues to add in, eventually.

One step at a time with such a large project.

    • Ok - Clean, Simple, Easy to guide through...but the tempting look of the front cover to open up and start reading this magazine gets lost when you open the pages and it loses its ummmm - magazine look. No Pictures!!!!!! No Broad screaming Header to identify the section (like the ones you have in the sample pages on the front cover.

The difference between a index box with recipes and a magazine with recipes - is the pictures. Other than that - they are recipes. Then the difference between a magazine recipe article and a web magazine recipe article is inter-active (well, you could put a scratch and sniff on a magazine for inter-active, but I don't know how well a seafood dinner would smell???). It doesn't have to be inter-active but at least make it have pictures - even if they are generic.

Your site looks Great & I know you are working on it...but images are so important. (Time consuming but Important)

oh and more condensed articles on a page - like in a magazine where they put rows and columns of leads that go into (Read More Page blah blah blah)

Other than that Wish You All the Best...

    • Someting strange on the homepage. It seems that the banner is behind some content (see screenshot).
      Tested with IE7.
    • I use simplix, does this mean that I'm a simple guy ? :)

    • I spent awhile looking at ur site other day sorry forgot to post back... Some cool recipes and i must say nice haircut.

James is right tho ^^^ no pics .. front page really needs tweaking.

one of the probs is the picture displayer aswell the module joomla gallery something... its displaying them at an offset for me so there is always white in the pictures and there not centered or even visable a few of them.

Yes, the article images are the last thing to be added - today, actually.

The recipes don't have images... The mag does not feel the need, so I am stuck without them, sigh. As far as a header, that is a client thing, but I am glad for the feedback. I can pass it on as an outside source!
oh and more condensed articles on a page - like in a magazine where they put rows and columns of leads that go into (Read More Page blah blah blah)

Again, I had columns, but the client preferred the cleaner look of a single column, and I could not convince them that web and print are *and must be* different in some ways. :-X

Thanks. I'll play with this. I don't have IE7 temporarily, my PC suddenly stopped accessing the wireless network, and my Virtual PC has IE6.

There SHOULD be white, as that creates a "photo" look, but they should also be centered. What browser are you using?

Thanks ALL! Keep the feedback coming.

    • Having read a lot of your responses - I finally saw a site you were presenting. ;D So, I feel for you on the whole - client thing - cause you want everything you do to rock (and it does, just sometimes the client has final say and well - doesn't rock as good as it could if you were set free - that is why I am the client of myself)

Oh and yes IE would give you a heart attack if you saw how the site was coming out. (last year when I first discovered fire fox - I used it instead of IE thinking I would never use IE again - till everyone kept complaining about the site I was working on and I kept looking at in FF and thinking are they crazy? Then I turned on IE - about fell out of my chair - now I sit here and refresh IE ever time I add or change something on a site - note: I don't consider myself a web designer, I consider myself a hack that fakes the funk, but one day when I grow up - I will be a real web designer because I will have the money to pay someone else to do it. LOL)

You give great feed back and your work is excellent...good luck with your site.

    • So The way I see it, I have three problems in IE 7...

      1. The lack of opacity in my main section on the homepage. I think that can be readily fixed by adding an image to the background, instead of just the color.

      2. The Simple Image Rotator is not centered properly.

      3. MOST IMPORTANT - The lower section is up behind the main section.

I'll be posting in the Simplix forum for assistance, but will also accept suggestions here. ;-)

    • Jaimie, check it out now - More pics have been added, including some I found on a photo site, just to liven up the recipes...

Robby, thanks for the assist. I am still working on the Simple Image Rotate, how's the rest look to you.

Thanks. Please keep the ideas/suggestions/comments coming!
