    Sequence Staffing Website

Posted 17 years 3 months ago
      • Site: www.sequencestaffing.com
      • Template: Pixel Perfect
      • Extensions: VirtueMart, SwMenuPro, ChronoForms, Help Center Live (non Joomla!)
      • Additional Extension: many custom code tweaks (including core hacks), a custom wrapper application to restyle a legacy Web application

      Notes:
This project has been a bear (for anyone wondering why I have been silent, well now you know), but I'll be poking my head around here a bit more now.

The site is indeed based on Pixel Perfect, and there are actually three variants of the template used in this site. When I signed on to this project, there was an existing design (HTML/graphics only) and the goal was to match that design as closely as possible. In addition to that, a legacy Web application (the Job Board) needed to be integrated, but the default integration did not provide us with the level of customization that we wanted, so, with great effort, an existing open source PHP based proxy was used to rewrite the pages on the fly.

Getting this site to work across browsers, while still retaining functionality was quite the task.

There are, of course, many things that are still being worked on, but now that it is launched, I get to show it to my fellow RocketThemers!

Although there are no guarantees, at this point, I am going to be looking into the possibility of cleaning up and releasing the proxy code back to the community for other people who are interested in having more control over what they wrap (it isn't for the faint of heart though). If you need more info, feel free to ask or pm.

      Thanks for taking a look.

    • Mathew,

That is one hell of a site! Clicking around for awhile it is obvious you put in a tremendous amount of work. Congratulations!

    • Wow! This site is SO cool!

I love the flash! Is it a module or did you make it yourself?

The Flash was developed externally by a Flash designer. I updated the links (in the secondary Flash movies) to point to the content items. Because the site uses dedicated templates for the intro and landing pages, I integrated the Flash directly into the template instead of using a module.

I used SwfObject (a JavaScript Flash loader) to load the Flash and to get around the IE7 Flash issues. There are a variety of Flash modules that do this, but I didn't have time to play with them, and the templates were already pretty hacked up, so rather than put a module location in, I just inlined the Flash and had done with it.

It does load flash (except for the heavier flash elements), unfortunately we have been having some issues with our host, and will be moving shortly (hosting details omitted per client request).

    • Absolutely fantastic job Matthew :)

Just a few comments, I get an error in Firebug just past the main flash page:-
      MM_swapImgRestore is not defined

For the menu hovers, have you thought of using "instantaneous" hovers with scrolling backgrounds in the CSS - using a single image?

I know there are a few bugs cropping up (no pun intended). Many moons ago, I had a version of the site that pretty much looked the same, and worked the same, in FireFox only, and it was almost bug free. Getting it to work cross browser was a nightmare (and it still has minor issues in Safari), so I finally gave up on having everything valid, and settled for getting it to look right. :(

As for the menus. . . You have no idea how much pain those things have caused. The last thing that I wanted to use was Transmenu, but original design (a static HTML page showing how it should look) had transmenu in it for the menus, and that was the exact look that was wanted. I looked and looked for an easier way to get the same effect for less trouble, and couldn't find it. If you know of something, though, I'll swallow my pride, and check it out. I'm going to have to maintain this thing, after all!

So, please, pray tell, expand on this instantaneous hover with scrolling background in CSS approach. :D

    • Ahhh... I've found my winner for SOTM October!!

Well done Mathew, I love it!

Thought I'd just let you know that using FF2, on a 1024px wide screen, with bookmarks and web dev toolbar open :) ... yeah a short screen... the menu acts up on the "Environmental" menu item (the one with the lengthy drop-down).

Your Contact Us link at top right also drops to a new line.

      See attached.

      Great site mate, very impressive.
