      Comments about Replicant

      Pros:

This is one of the coolest and most unique looking templates I have ever seen! I was overwhelmed by all the background and design choices. I really enjoyed playing around with different styles... but finally settled on a classy dark green background. RokFlow on the front page looks awesome!

      Cons:

None, really. I made the background image a little bigger so it wouldn't show an edge at the bottom of the screen on my humongous (24") monitor.

    • Thanks! My wife is the artist... I'm the web guy.

I'm thinking about switching my other website (drtummy.com) to Replicant. I'd prefer to have dark text on a light background. Has anyone tried this with Replicant? Most of the templates use white text.

    • Very nice use of the theme. Replicant is one of my favorite RT templates and you have done a good job of implementing it. A couple of small critiques... First, get rid of the Joomla favicon.ico (found in the /images/ directory of the root Joomla installation). Wikipedia has some good information on how to create your own. Second, perhaps your background image could fade into your default background color on the right and left-hand sides. Anyone with a resolution beyond 1200(w) will see the contrast line created by the background image. I have attached an example that may work... Again, great use of the template.

    • Oh, I forgot to mention, your wife is a fantastic artist! I really miss the canvas myself.

    • Scott,

Thanks a kajillion. It is ironic that you responded to my message. Your website ( www.mccn.edu ) inspired me to change my other site, http://drtummy.com.  I changed it just yesterday. You will notice it looks similar... but not too similar I hope!

Obviously, we are both fans of Replicant!

I'll definitely change the green background on my wife's site. Thanks a bunch!

In regards to Favicon - the best place I found on the web to create a favicon is on http://www.favicon.cc/

1- You can upload a image.
2- You can edit it and see the changes live
3- You can start from scratch and use color picker.
4- It's just plain cool - very user friendly.

    • For the favicon... I ended up using Photoshop to create a 16x16 pixel jpeg... and then converted online at www.flavicon.com/converter

This was the only way I knew how to do it before your advice. Thanks, your suggestion would probably be easier.

Yeah I create it in photo shop too, but I find the final results will be better if I use the upload and preview mode of that site I suggested - because every time you change a pixel the preview changes so your getting on the fly resluts plus you can use the clear pen to create a clear Favicon. After creating about 50 favicons - I found that site -- it is a blessing...makes it a lot easer to make them.

    • I just tried www.favicon.cc/  ; You are right... much better. The transparency feature is awesome... no more square favicons!
