    • Hi,

The HiveMind is certainly a nice and soft template for the medical area. You made a good choice.

One little remark though. The image rotator on the frontpage is working fine, no doubt, but the images used and their sizes and shapes are inconsistent. This to me takes away from the overall good looks of your site. Personally I think it would be better if you would use 1 shape (not mix rounded and square edges - if you do reflections, do them on all images).

    • Good input. I will probably feel compelled to make these changes now!

:) Check the HiveMind demo. The image rotator there uses top rounded edges and square but reflected bottom. I would replicate that look for your pictures. The rounded edges in the pictures follow the rounded edges in the overall template. A bit of Photoshop (or Fireworks) effort, but it is worth it. Once you created your graphic template it will be very easy to create the pictures with rounded edges and reflection.

I was also working on a medical site last week
      you can check www.doctorsofta.com
it is also using Hive Mind
I really liked your new patient registration form
Could you please help me telling what you used in building that

    • Thank you. The patient registration thing is tricky. We are using a practice management system/EMR called MacPractice MD- it's a Mac based system. One of the nice perks is that MacPractice has written these registration pages for customers for a relatively small cost.

We host them on our server in our office with an SSL certificate to meet HIPAA compliance. HIPAA makes things pretty tricky.

Dang, why are all the good things on Mac's ;-)

I've been looking for something similar for a site so I'm curious if you found anything else out there that you looked at?

      Nice clean site overall!!

    • I happen to be one of the physicians in this group - so I did the legwork behind choosing the patient reg. stuff. But, the patient registration is merely a small piece of what is called "Practice Management Software" and "EMR" - which stands for Electronic Medical Record. The former is used to run the practice (scheduling, billing, etc.) and the latter is used to keep your patient records.

If you do a google search for either term, you will get millions of hits. The industry for these two pieces of software has exploded. Most companies are trying to offer an integrated solution offering both pieces of software. Some products are better than others, and the whole topic can be overwhelming. The company that wrote my PM software/EMR (called MacPractice) happened to develop these patient registration pages. That said, there are several hurdles with making them work:

      (1) hosting them in a HIPAA compliant environment- SSL pages with enough encryption, SSL emails that transmit the information, server must be locked down and secure, etc.
      (2) getting the patient request info to MD office in a secure manner
      (3) getting the information into your PM or EMR

MacPractice has a pretty nice little solution for most of this, but step one was up to me.

Ask the people you are working for what PM or EMR software they use. It is possible that the company they use happens to offer similar pages; many companies even host these pages for you (called a "patient portal"). Some companies have more elegant and powerful offerings than others.

Often the PM/EMR company will either allow you to link to their portal or will design the portal pages around your template. My solution was a combination of using what was developed and some do-it-yourself.

That's my two cents in a nutshell.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to the question on the software.

Unfortunately, my client is only looking for a scheduling software and calendar that clients can see open times and book an appointment. They aren't looking for a full blown office/client management software but I'll do some digging on what's out there.
