Drama Resource - Affinity

Components:
AEC Subscription Manager
iJoomla Sidebars (not used much yet)
Modules:
mini frontpage
signallogin
Bots:
mosif (handy for showing different content to registered/unregistered visitors)
PDA mambot (not fully configured yet)

Other Features:
I have relaunched a site that was already quite popular due to the large amount of free content. It is now also a subscription site - I am trying to encourage people to pay a subscription, but not too in-your-face. Subscribers will get access to a lot more material. I have tried to keep it search-engine-friendly and to retain enough material to keep people's interest.

Specific areas of my site that I'd like feedback on:

1 I'd like to know if people think it works OK as a subscription site or if you have any suggestions about improving that aspect. I only launched it two days ago - and no subscribers yet!
2 I find the site sometimes really slows down and I wonder whether it is because of the moo_menu. I'd like to know if anybody else finds that it freezes up.

Thanks to the helpful people on these forums for helping me to set up this site. I'm still tweaking! ;D

• phpbb looks so good in that form. Just remember to remove the phpbb banner at the top. :) Great Job.

• Hi could you please tell me how you got the facebook fan module to work?
I've created a fanpage in facebook and used the code creator from facebook
when i copy paste that code into my module, it doesnt display as it should.
Please help.. i noticed copy paste into joomla adds a bit to the code..

• Great looking site. You changed from HiveMind to Affinity. You might want to change the thread title to reflect that.

Two problems:
Viewing in Firefox, I couldn't get the homepage to scroll.
Viewing in IE 8, when the newsletter popup showed up, it disrupted the page display.

Affinity has such a cool RokNavMenu module. I would suggest that you install and use it to add dimension to the menu display. Long menu lists don't display well in smaller computer screens such as the new netbooks.

Best wishes,
Rae

• Oh, one more thing...

I just love the use of Sexy Bookmarks on your Spotlighting page. Kind of demonstrates how spotlighting works. I got it! :)

• For the Facebook code to work you need to switch off any WYSIWYG editor such as Tiny MCE or just edit in code view. Otherwise essential parts of the code will be stripped out. The following is what I used:

<fb:fan
profile_id="xxxxxxxxxxxxx" stream="" connections="9" width="186"
height="325"></fb:fan>

• Hi Rae

Thanks for the comments. I was unable to replicate the issues you referred to in Firefox and IE.

About the RokNavMenu - is there an example of this being used on the Affinity site? I have installed it already so would like to know which features you suggest I use.

Many thanks,

David.

• Hi David,

The RokNavMenu is the menu that displays on the Affinity demo page. It is part of the extensions download. You just install the zip file through the Joomla installer. Then enable it through the site modules. There are options in the module parameters to modify it to your needs.
