Agree with Matthew, the colors seems off for a conservative site (or political, for that matter). Not that conservatives/politics have a lock on certain colors, but...
Among marketing professionals, they acknowledge that there is a psychology to color. Being a creative director of an as agency, color send a subliminal message to the reader. The green has a much more subdued effect on the psyche than, let's say, red. You might consider reading up on the psychology of color.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Conservatives aren't ALL conservative, color-wise.
I run campaigns for R's here in Illinois. Ya gotta nudge 'em a little, but they catch on and like color too.
