My first public template offering (WIP) - feedback appreciated

Posted 17 years 11 months ago
    • Hi folks,

I've been spending some time working on a new template which I plan to offer in two flavours - a free version which is pretty much what-you-see-is-what-you-get, not much you can customize automatically, not as much flexibiity with collapsing module positions etc etc...and a paid-for version which will feature lots of layout options and 5 or 6 color variations. The source PNG will also be included with the paid-for version.

The template takes inspiration from Microsoft's Office Online website, the layout and colours are very similar ;) but it's all be recreated 100% from scratch...and in FireWorks too!

The cosmetics and other fundamentals are pretty much in place now, there is still a lot to be done code-wise but I wanted to get some early opinions - what you think of it, what could be improved, is it worth paying for (planning to sell for around £10-15 so not a huge cost).

      Many thanks in advance!

    • Actually it's not bad. Nice work, very clean and certainly inspired by Office.

The thing I would change is the font soze increases on roll over.

      Nice work

    • Hi Dan

It is really a clean and nice template. I suggest rounded corners for the headlines in your module, so it will fit the rest of the layout. I like it when all modulehave the same size, for example that module right always have the same height as the left module and mainbody, but thats my opinion...

keep ut the nice work.. :)

Thanks for that - yes, I think you're right regarding the rounded corners on the titles and will do that for sure.

Totally agree about the module heights, but this is something I've not figured out - and to be honest, I have no idea if it's possible to do. I'll take a look anyway.

      Cheers
      Dan

    • Hmm...I have managed to set minimum heights (not on the online demo yet) for the left/mainbody/right which goes some way to improve the cosmetics. If all columns are below the minimum then they will indeed all be the same height...problem is, if one column is higher than the minimum then the others will obviously appear shorter.

If anyone has any ideas for this I'd be happy to hear them!

    • ...by the way, I want to again sing the praises of Fireworks. This template initially looks quite heavy on the graphics front, but unbelievably the total size for all images is just 26Kb. Photoshop wouldn't even get close ;)
