Thanks for this, it makes the backend much more efficient for every day use. The article submision layout is far better as your tabbed approach, with the metadata and advance menu. That is brilliant and makes much more sense accessing the additional elements when needed so that the focus can be on writing the article.
For the sites that use the K2 component it would be great to follow the same layout, ie the sidebar options as additional tabs so that the main article window can have the full screen width.
Are there any plans for this or does this come directly from the K2 component?

- That's very much coming from the K2 component. I'm hesitant to do that level of reorganization in a 3rd party extension as they are much more likely to change it, and therefore break it, than a core-joomla bit like com_content.
