SOLVED Found a Bug in Mission Control under J1.7

    • Hi,

I am using Joomla! 1.7 with the Camber Template and the Mission Control template version 1.6.3. The only extensions in use are Admin Tools and Akeeba Backup.

I am having trouble with continuous lockups in MC. For example, if I access "Categories" and choose "New", the new dialog screen appears, however, no matter what I add/change inside the dialog, it locks up and I am no longer able to navigate the screen. In fact, each time this has happened (every time attempted), I have only been able to gain control again by closing my browser (Firefox 3.6.18) completely.

Is this a known bug in J1.7 or is this the first time you have heard of this? I need to know because if this continues to occur, I will have to go back to using either J1.5 or J1.6.

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

      Thanks!

    • hi bill,

i am having no issues creating new categories on a default joomla 1.7 install with missioncontrol 1.6.3.

did you try different browsers? i am on firefox5, so not sure if it is an issue in firefox3.

also, was your install a default 1.7 install? or has it been migrated from 1.6?

      kat :)

    • Hi Kat,

It was a default 1.7 install from just yesterday.

And, I tried it with three different browsers and got the same behavior in all of them:

      Firefox: 3.6.18
      I.E.: 9.0.8112.16421
      Safari: 5.1

To try and get the same effect I'm getting, please do exactly this procedure:

      1) Open "Category Manager" from the main menu.

      2) Select "New" from the sub menu.

      3) In the "Title" field, add whatever you want. Then add the same in lowercase in the "Alias" field.

      4) Now try clicking on either "Save", "Save and Close", Save and New", or "Cancel".

When I try any of the above options in step 4, none of them work. The page just remains the same. In fact, nothing works on the main menu or the sub menu, or any other button/function on the page. The only way to exit either the page itself or the backend of the website is to close the browser window altogether.

I'm not sure why this would not happen to you too, but it has happened to me each and every time I've tried it in all three browsers.

I wish someone else could duplicate this behavior so that I can determine what is causing it.

      I appreciate your help.

    • Kat,

You were correct. I installed firefox 5 and the problem corrected itself. I had been holding onto firefox 3 because some of my extensions do not work on 5, but I figured this was much more important, so I made the switch.

Thank you for your help! :)

    • hi bill,

glad that it works for you now in ff5, it really is much better than ff3.5.
anyways, i just tried in safari Version 5.0.5 (6533.21.1) and i have no issues there either.

    • I'm seeing this exact same issue with both IE9 and the latest version of Chrome. If I revert to one of the other default admin themes, I see no problems in Category Manager. Mission Control just loses it's brain here.

There are definitely bugs, probably in the client-side script somewhere.

    • I'm using the most recent version of all browsers and have always experienced this bug. I have made it my practice to switch to admin praise to create new categories and then back to mission control for everything else.

      Hi MiD-AwE,

One thing I've learned since starting this thread back in August is that if you switch your editor from RokPad to No Editor before accessing Categories, this problem does not occur. So, I believe that the bug has something to do with the RokPad Editor.

      Hope this helps!
