The scenario is this: Next version of Joomla! 1.5, or one of the next ones, is going to have built-in a Plugin called "MooTools Upgrade" which when enabled will switch MooTools from 1.12 to MooTools 1.2.4 and leave it at 1.12 if disabled. MooTools 1.2.4 comes with a so called "compatibility layer", that is intended to provide compatibility of MooTools 1.12 scripts in MooTools 1.2.4.
I will be honest here and I think it is better for everyone to know, from users to developers: the compatibility layer is not 100% compatible, many things are not going to work properly with the MooTools Upgrader enabled and with extensions written in MooTools 1.12.
The problem that comes with Joomla! and the MooTools Upgrader plugin is that it's going to be like running Joomla! 1.5 with parts of Joomla! 1.0, as for example.
You will be able to choose which version of MooTools to use but the frontend JavaScripts loading will be always the same and if the compatibility isn't able to make some frontend JavaScripts working properly, there will be issues.
What I personally expect is a bit of confusion at the beginning. Some 3rd party extensions will not be updated and run on 1.12 only (as it was for J!1.0 only extensions), some others 3rd party extensions will get updated and splitted to be in both types (as we have seen for extensions J!1.0 and J!1.5), and finally some 3rd party extensions will drop the old MooTools 1.12 and provide just the new type (as it was for J!1.5 only extensions).
It's not something new, we've gone through all of this already back to the J!1.0/J!1.5 days, it's probably going to require a bit at the beginning, for everyone to catch up.
It is surely something big Joomla! decided to go through and I am honestly happy they did. MooTools 1.12 is really really old, the benefits from using MooTools 1.2.4 are uncountable, and I know it for sure.
For what concerns RocketTheme, well, RocketTheme is absolutely ready. We have been working in the shadows for all this time, knowing it will have happened sooner or later. We have versions of everything written in both 1.12 and 1.2.4, from extensions to Gantry, etc. When it will be the day, we will be ready to update everything in order to work with one or the other version.

I always try to use a minimum of 3rd party-extensions. (mostly rt + y**)
I guess how fast extension-devs will provide moo-1.2-versions will devide the professionals from the rest ...
Definitely this is a step Joomla must go it it wants to be accepted by young developers.
Perhaps we will have two rocketlauncher versions in the future?

AFAIK, none of the extensions available are based on 1.2.
I'm sure that will be an announcement when everything is ready, but reviewing Djamil's post, jumping on the bandwagon too soon may not be a good thing.
But I'm sure when the time is right the team will provide you (us) with a smooth roll out. - Thanks,

Many of the latest extension upgrades where done specifically for MT1.2 as far as I can see
RokPad has been updated to version 1.3 which adds support for Mootools 1.2 and Joomla 1.5.19
RokNavMenu has been updated to version 1.12 which adds support for Mootools 1.2.
Etc etc....

Panacea is right now, without doing anything but updating joomla, MooTools 1.2 compatible, as well as: RokPad, RokStories, RokBox, RokNewsPager, RokAjaxSearch, RokTabs and RokNavMenu.
If unsure of the version, just re-download and re-install the template or the extensions and you should be fine.
As usual, as soon as possible, all templates will be updated to 1.5.19, as well as the remaining Extensions.
More infos will be notified soon, be patient, it has just been released.
