How to upload a very large table?

  • How to upload a very large table?

    Posted 18 years 1 week ago
    • I want to paste a large table into a content item. I created the page and pasted about 3,500 row/4 column table into the page from a spreadsheet. However, I could not save the content. I kept receiving a "unresponsive script" error asking me whether to continue to stop script. After about a 1/2 hour of hitting "continue" I gave up and figured the page or table is too big for the system. What is the limit? ANd how can I get around it? Any other methods or posting large amounts of data like this?

      Thanks,
      Jason

    • WOW that is a HUGE table to try and paste. I have had the wysiwyg choke at about 150 rows and 4 columns.
      Real curious to see what others have to say about this one.
      Even if you did get it to upload I wonder how long a page load would be?
      Maybe look into exporting your spreadsheet into CSV and importing csv into database tables?
      What kind of tabular data are you trying to import?
      Sorry I am no help at all maybe someone else has a suggestion.

      edit:Think we may need a DB guru for you.
      Somewhere long time ago on an older project I found a tool for importing csv into mambo Ill have look for it this weekend and see if I still have it. Also try and take a look or ask on Joomla.org forum about your other queries and other possible workarounds for this.

    • Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

    • One more possible solution found on joomla.org forum:
      There is a another approach;
      -Put that excel document to site by ftp;
      -create a wrapper link to publish document

      just a idea!
      I guess it kind of depends on what you want to do with this huge table......

    • We sell paint, so I want to allow our customers to look up paint colors - basically a list. I suppose it doesn't matter which format, although I want it to be searchable via the search on our site, and also get picked up by search engines.

      I've never done anything with wrappers. I'll give it a try on Monday. Thanks for the suggestion.

    • With all due respect, have you considered creating a more user-friendly and slick way of offering paint choices to customers?
      Some examples would be:
      www.benjaminmoore.ca/colours/home.aspx
      www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/index.jsp

      A lot of work, granted, but I guess you have to weigh that with your needs.

      Just a suggestion, cheers!
