...I set it to Br elements and now I can control line spacing the way I want!
...even though the setting for new lines in TinyMCE plugin is still "Br Elements", now each new line is made into P element and it also converts to <p> all text that preceeds it...
What happened?

I don't know...
But you might ant to try JCE (Joomla Content Editor).

Does it have a relative option?
I had JCE installed before I "discovered" the Extended functionality of TinyMCE...it was giving me trouble, actually...although I had all settings as suggested, it wouldn't allow me to embed videos from Dailymotion etc, it was also significantly slower loading...
Not a big fan of JCE, really...and unless it has an option to make new lines default to <br>, I have no reason to install it presently...
Also not a big fan of extensions that don't uninstall well, leaving all sorts of files and DB entries behind...I tend to test the "uninstallation performance" of extensions before I install them to the live site...it has saved me from trouble...
Not saying that TinyMCE is better, rather that unless JCE has that specific feature I am interested in presently, I would prefer not to install it since I don't need to do so.

No luck with JCE either....setting new lines to linebreak did not work...linespacing also seems bigger, which is weird.
I remembered why I did not like it...it's also missing a "Paste from Word" button...maybe it was JCK editor I remembered having such a button... - You can call me George

I recently finished a site with JCE with close to 300 Articles and not even a hiccup...
Really don't know what to tell you...
The 'Paste from Word, Paste as Plain Text' icons appear and function properly for me.
(Did you check the setting in the screen shot from my previous posts?) - Thanks,

About the linebreaks? Yes...
I don't get the icons in the screenshot there...I get a single icon, with two dropdown buttons "Paste" and "Paste as Plain Text"...

Do you have a subscription maybe? Any extra stuff installed?
The only thing I really like about JCE (apart from some cool image manager options) is that there is a localization package, which is useful for some users not accustomed to english terminology in text editing applications. - You can call me George
