    No Migration from Joomla 1.5 to 1.6

    • Think this might start some 'discussions'?

      I started reading this thread forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=580&t=569539 where some people commented;
      There will be no official migration method, FYI. Per the PLT meeting notes from 17 November:

      2. Migration script will be 3p extension and not officially supported by JBS. Will work toward an official migration tool for 1.7.

      Here's the referenced PLT meeting notes: groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/joomla-w...oduction/bIY3ymFIPYY
      and it says:
      2. Migration script will be 3p extension and not
      officially supported by JBS. Will work toward an official migration
      tool for 1.7.

      Was really disappointed to read this. Reference was made about a 3p script in the thread, but that's for core only. 1.0 to 1.5 was tough enough, but yet another "new release" instead of a migration or upgrade? I'm a little disappointed, but not so much since RT now makes Drupal themes. I'm leaning more towards what is starting to make more sense for the long term.

      In particular...
      According to the Joomla 1.6 User Manual (incomplete), there is a planned migration script that will help migrate your content from 1.5 to 1.6, but it does not currently exist. If you have a large site that you can't manually replicate, the availability of a migration script is going to be a key factor in when you upgrade.

      Be patient.. :P
