Creating a Download Section & Changing type size on my website

  • Creating a Download Section & Changing type size on my website

Posted 17 years 10 months ago
    • Good day. I am a newbee to joomla, cms systems and a new member in the Rocket club. I don't know where to go for assistance so I thought I'd post something here. Hopefully that is okay. Here are my two questions:
      1. Where do you get the component, module or mambot to make the print larger, smaller or reset? I have a newspaper website and this would be a great tool. I see it on some sites however I don't know what it is or what it is called.
      2. I have a few PDF files I would like to put up on my site. How do I accomplish that? I've created a category and menu item called "Downloads" & have entered content items but how do I incorporate existing PDF files on my site?

Any help, guidance or direction from anyone would be appreciated.

      Thanks in advance.

    • I'll just answer no.1.

this cannot be done properly as just a module or mambot. It must be built into the template. You will have to create seperate css files ie. one for the default font size, and another two for large and small font. Then set up javascript to load the css depending on what the user clicks.

Andy hasn't done this proper since md_globalbiz way back in the early days.

    • Thank you. That is beyond my skillset so I am going to live without that feature for now! I do appreciate your response.

    • A way to accomplish your .pdfs, would be to upload them to your root directory (where your joomla resides).

Next you can create links in your content that point to your .pdf files.

Eg: May Business Meeting Minutes The link would be www.yoursite.com/may_minutes.pdf

If you have a bunch like I do, you can create a table to make it look neater.

    • I found this

      extensions.joomla.org/component/option,c...nk_id,695/Itemid,35/

That puts the font resizer in a module apparently

But, if you drop me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. I could fix a good website up for you!

    • I stand corrected :)

Actually after posting I though it would be simple enough to write a module that did this as you're basically resizing the same tags regardless of website (<p><h1><h2><h3> etc) so a script to dynamically increase or decrease the value of those attributes by a few points shouldn't be hard. Still, every template is different and for best results working it into the template is the best way to go.

Not everyone wants to or can mess with code so the module is still valuable for that segment of joomla users.
