Joomla 1.6 - Legacy Templates - and Joomla 1.7

- Are there any plans to make any legacy templates work for Joomla 1.6? I truly hope there are plans especially for Versatility 4 as I have a few sites with that template and was simply wondering? Crossing my fingers and hoping this will be the case. Also, since Joomla 1.7 is supposedly around the corner we all hope the 1.6 templates will work on the new 1.7 framework without all the waiting for the templates to be converted. Does anyone know anything about that or is too early to be speculating?

- I haven't heard anything yet but i don't think templates older than Gantry framework will be ported.

- Too bad because I think there are many very popular legacy templates and the width restrictions on the gantry framework gives a lot of people a sour taste. RT makes some great templates but if they leave some out I think there will be some unhappy campers leave the camp.

For once it is contrary to what was said at the Joomla 1.6 conversion post
In that post I suggested that beyond the newest (Gantry) templates, all the rest could be converted based on popularity, and usage....and Versatility4 is one of those templates that has been and continues to be popular, despite its age.
"Rhuk" replied:Not a bad idea, we might well have a poll where people can vote on which of the older 1.5 templates they would most like to see converted to 1.6, and then we could use this to determine the order of conversions. First we will convert all the Gantry based templates however.
So, unless something has changed, I guess we should be expecting a poll to be created. I didn't want to push this and start a poll myself, but as time goes by, shouldn't Rockettheme address this issue for its customers?
Joomla 1.6 conversion is a non-issue to me, since it is now very close to its end of life. But 1.7 and 1.8 update would sure be welcome - You can call me George

Henning,
your little restrictions fix is a hack and not integral to the Gantry framework itself. Additionally, it is only good for Joomla 1.5 as noted in your post. If RT could make the ability to automatically to have this integral to ALL gantry framework templates I think it would attract more people to those templates. I suppose I will have to find another template without restrictions that will satisfy my requirements.; I have been a member of RT for quite a while so unfortunately if I can no longer get what I need from RT then I will have to go somewhere else. No apologies as business is business. -

It's also good for 1.6.
It's not a hack ... its just a gantry feature.
Gantry is a framework and I used it for this feature,
Grid systems are "state of the art"
But everybody has different needs ...
