Noob question - Welcome article, unique per page

Posted 17 years 9 months ago
    • Hi

      http://thefountain.com/joomla/index.php

I am having trouble with how I want to construct my various "main" pages.

The site should start on the Front Page, and those articles should only appear on the Front Page.

On all four main pages, I would like to have a welcome article (headline, a paragraph explaining the section) that is unique to that page. The problems are:

-Can the current look be done though an article? I would like this message to look different from the other articles style-wise. And how would I make the article only appear on the desired page, at the very top?

-If I use a module like it is now, the message will be at the top of every subsection of that page, right? So if I click to see an author's CB profile, the message is still at the top because I linked through that first page. And the shop message will be at every step of the shop. Not good.

How should I solve this problem?

      Thanks

    • You do understand that you can assign which pages that you wish each module to appear on in the Module Edit screen?

If I understand you correctly, you simply have to use this to accomplish what you want to do.
Fyi, when highlighting pages to display a module on, you can (Windows computer) hold down the Ctrl key and left click each page to select multiple pages. [see attached image]

      Cheers!

    • Did you try the site out?

If I go to a given section from the top menu, the welcome message appears in each page OK. But if I link to another page after that, the welcome message is still present. So in the Virtuemart store, the store welcome message module will be at the top all the way down to the specific store item. I would like it to appear on the main VM page ("life") only, not on any of the VM category or item or payment pages.

Yes, I know about menu links and selecting which ones should display a module. But I don't see any of the (for instance) VirtueMart subpages (category, item) listed, which means they cannot be left unselected for the module. Not sure, but this seems like something that would have come up a million times...

      Thanks

    • What module / plugin are you using for menu description (mouse cursor hover), THX.

    • I just made the top banner/menu area a Flash movie. I don't know if I will keep it, but I wanted to see how it would work. I was trying to get overlib popups to work with the HTML menu, but I couldn't.

A longer term goal is to see if I can read the PHP output into Flash and generate menus from it. Flash has all the capabilities, you just need to write code to parse the HTML output of Joomla and find the menu code.

    • Thanks, didn't realize it was flash, thought it was some sort of mambot or module, looks good.

Ah, well that would seem to be a query mayhaps better asked at the VirtueMart developer forum (if you haven't already).
Sorry I can't be of any help.

      Cheers!

    • Hi

Well, it is essentially the same problem with the other main sections. I just need to figure out how to have a unique article/module on home/youth/wisdom/life that only appears on the first page of each section.
