I really don't see why it's not clear. When we started joomla, the entire team moved over from mambo, so effectively all the people who had contributed to mambo, were now contributing to joomla. To say it another way, we, the joomla developers, have contributed code to the mambo code base while it was a GPL project. I am one of those contributors, so I could theoretically seek GPL compliance of the mambo project even if they break the GPL license, so could any of the other contributors.
That is what I said ages ago, mambo is GPL, joomla is GPL, you can't just change the license or how it works without getting the consent of every commiter. The only thing that has happened is we have found out that what we originally thought regarding extensions considered to be derivative works, being able to use different licenses, was incorrect.
I know that was an abysmal bit of english.. i apologize.
I am kinda bored of this subject, but it's mainly because i'm so tired of reading FUD and blatant lies, that when i read a post that actually is correct, and is rational, I want to spread the 'word'.
Hey, don't argue it with me! I just linked to a counter idea. I have no idea about Mambo's license so I am not fit to comment on it.
