    • This is a newbie question is it possible to have joomla installed on 1 database and smf on another and have the same login for both with out the need of a bridge like joomlahacks. can the two database share the usernames and passwords with a bit of codeing or something? or am i just being stupid??

    • You need a bridge and need to be in the same database.

    • impossible for a newbie... difficult for a coder.

you can probably write a script that copied the joomla users over to smf every 20mins or something(and vice versa)... but maintaining sessions would probably be impossible.. so they would have to log on again when moving between the two scripts.

i'm just a layman, so don't take my word for it... it's only worth 2cents ;)

    • Thanks chaps, but am i correct in saying that there isnt going to be a bridge for 1.1.3 joomla due to some licence issue if that is the case there wont be a bridge for 1.5 will there?

    • if you can't find it with google, ask someone to send it to you. joomla is licensed under GNU/GPL which means you can do ANYTHING you want with it. The restrictions only have to do with distribution.

the person not complying with the license is the one who distributes the bridge.

even so, personally if i had the bridge i would send it to ya with no qualms whatsoever. i would even host it and distribute it freely. the gnu/gpl license was not made to stifle development or the free flow of information/knowledge. nobody is hurt or disadvantaged by the distribution of the bridge.

use the bridge. there are whispers of a bridge being developed for joomla1.5/phpbb3 by/for RT... if that happens you can bet your life a script will also be developed to port over data from smf to phpbb. at that time you can move to phpbb but for now, i recommend joomla/smf bridged.

    • I have done some reading up on the licence issue and so many post in smf forums and others advising moving to mambo, I really don't want to do that as i like using joomla. What a headache

    • If you are wanting to use Joomla! 1.5, then just wait for the J!1.5 - phpbb3 bridge being developed by RocketWerx :)
