Alternative to tables for responsive design?

One of the pages in a site I'm designing (Joomla 2.5/Panacea template) is devoted to the board of directors for our organization. Right now I'll I've got is a photo and the name of each of 8 board members. I used a HTML table with four columns and two rows so that I can best use the horizontal space and eliminate scrolling (since there's not a lot of meaty info yet).
I'm pleased with the way it turned out--clean and evenly spaced. When I looked at it on my iphone though (in the vertical aspect) the table breaks out of the phone template and you have to to scroll sideways. It looks "broken" although I realize that it's doing exactly what I set it up to do.
My question: is there another way to handle this so that the photos appear in a horizontal grid in a normal browser but will rearrange to fit in other devices? I just want it to look neat and orderly across platforms.
I'm not a hardcore programmer, but I want to keep up with the times. Which means learning new things. Any recommendations appreciated!
