Has anyone used 1 and 1 as a host? any knowledge on them?

After much deliberation and some recent lack of support, I decided to take my VPS business to 1&1 host... Then, I started looking at reviews... Some good, some horrid... I was wondering if anyone has experience with them?
Honestly, the hosting field is full of a million different companies, which many lack datacenters and resell other plans... I know 1 and 1 to be a large company with an impressive datacenter, but they do lack the CPANEL features...
Basically I just need something fast and reliable... Hytekhosting.com is ok, but for databases, my site at www.mybasketballprofile.com suffers poor DB speed at times...
Since this community is pretty good on knowledge, whats the best one to go with? 1&1, hostgator, etc?
Since one tech at godaddy just hung up on me today cuz he couldn't answer my question, I'm dropping them asap... They have yet to fix my messed up VPS...
Talk about a pain... Makes me want to buy my own server... -
