Ok, so on my site, I have all of my main content categories, and then I also have a section for press releases where people can upload their own PR if they choose (because I get tons sent to me by email and dont have time for it).
Today I checked the press release section, and sitting right there on the top was a news article from one of my other content areas. I laughed at myself, thinking I must have accidentally selected the wrong category/section when adding that article. No problem, I'll just go into admin control panel and move it - wrong.
When I go to the admin control panel and go to the PR section, that article is not even listed there. In fact, the place I found it was in the category/section it is suppose to be in, so there is really no explaination for why it is being displayed in the press release section.
As best as I can tell, I did add it to the correct area, and either Joomla or Sporticus is misdisplaying it in the wrong place. I'm new to Joomla and am just getting the hang of it, because I'm use to coding everything myself. However, I'm a bit concerned over seeing content displayed in the wrong area, because the whole point in using this system is to manage the content - not to mismanage it.
Has anyone else noticed this before? Is this common? I hope not. I'd rather go back to taking extra time to code it all.
Now I just mysteriously had a second "Home" link appear at the end of my main menu. I clicked it to see what's up, and it led nowhere, just an empty page with no content. When I went to admin control panel to delete it, I noticed that it had id 873. What is odd about that is that 873 is the content item that was being displayed in the wrong location.
No one has ever experienced this problem?
I guess my copy of joomla is just haunted or something. Maybe I should just wipe it out and do an manual installation instead of trusting the rocket launcher set up, but I really hate to do that after I just took the time to migrate 1,000 articles from my old site into joomla. That was quite time consuming to do once. I really dont want to do it again.
First thing I would do is go to the trash manager and make sure all your deleted menu and content items are deleted. Putting them in the trash isn't good enough, make sure you delete them.
Another possibility is DB corruption. It's possible there's a problem there.
You may want to glance through the security section on joomla.org and use some of the utilities there to check your site. You might have a problem there.
You said you let people publish on your site. What editor do they use? Do you allow uploads? Do you screen them before publishing them?
On some sites that allow editors to upload files, people have uploaded .php files, and since they know where it lands, they can execute them. (Someone stuck a nasty on my site once, using an image uploader from a forum component.)
