    Q:Forms, money and security

    Posted 17 years 4 months ago
    • Hi
      Im back with one of my questions....
      My site is nearly done,, but one of the last things I want to add to my site is a shop component like VM and a jobs submission form ( custom built) that takes credit card info, paypal, etc etc...

      I have never delt with these things before and I am on the fast track to learn

      so I start here;

      Question, if I have my site is at > www.domain.com < without SSL do I then use a subdomain with security that my shoppers are sent to from my main domain?? in other words do I install VM in a subdomain using the same Database as my main site?

      or

      should SSL / htps be applied to my main site and can just the cart page at checkout be secured with these services??

      am I making any sense ? or do I really need to go learn a lot more before I ask questions :)

      thanks fellow Joo-roos!!

    • Normally you activate SSL which is mapped to the primary domain. In VM there is a setting for the secure server, which is used once the checkout process starts.

    • Additionally, many of the SEF extensions make it easy to specify which parts of your site should be SSL and which should not be.

      I would normally have users surf in the clear until they get to the checkout process, but there are other opinions.
