  • Come out with a bang or show what you have and build?

    • Hey all,

      I have been working on a personal project that has potential to turn into a money making venture. How much money you ask? Probably not a lot but I might be able to buy a new guitar or two. ;D

      The community is for guitarists and ultimately other musicians. Right now I think I need about six months to really get this to where I want it so I can come out with a bang. I may even do some advertising in a few guitar magazines. My question is: "should I come out with a bang or just let it build naturally with very little content up front?' I have contacts with the industry that I have shared my ideas with and they all agree with my ideas and some want to partner with me.

      I started building websites about 13 years ago or so. Yes, yes, I have done all the stupid tricks and had a bunch of bad ideas myself. If you all want a good laugh go here: members.aol.com/mrnapalm/  ; Please don't hold that against me. It was my first site. I leave it up for prosperity. If i recall this site was done in 1994. So, give me a little bit of a break! Most of the sites I have worked on over the last seven years have been for major corporations. I have not done a personal site/project in a long time.

      After researching various CMS systems I have decided to move forward with Joomla. Like many I toyed with the idea of building my content system myself but sanity overcame me. This time! I feel that with a CMS system I can concentrate on content more than coding.

      So, how does everyone else handle launching sites?

    • let it build naturally,,, oddly,,your members will tell you what part of your site is the most used and what part is not... sometimes it is just the opposite of what you think your focus should be...

      once you see the use and needs of members and you have "tweaked" the site to cater to those site strengths and eliminated the not used portions,,, then go gang busters..


      but thats my opinion

    • Thanks for the advice. I see what you mean about letting the members drive the focus. In some aspectsI had thought of doing that. By not coming out with a bang I can focus on items as they come up instead of trying to juggle everything out of the gate.
