Oh boy...static content URL's...

    • I am as green as it gets with Joomla. I read some about the SEF url issue, and changed my default htaccess.txt file to .htaccess and from what I can see, the browser window is now showing correct url information with no additional modifications. After I renamed it from .txt to .htaccess, it dissappeared. Any idea where it went??

I downloaded and installed the latest Rockettheme template HiveMind and have it running on godaddy server space.

I am preparing a total revamp of my web site www.visiontshirts.com because I don't like using Frontpage or having static web site. It loads too slow, so I want to try my hand at Joomla and make it happen. I have looked at several tutorial videos, and they are not helping all that much. I have a Beginning Joomla book by Dan Rahmel (beginning Joomla from novice to pro) and have been reading it.

My new site with joomla www.envisionprintshop.com is my work in progress. I used rocketlauncher to load it.

This is very different to me understanding the layout of the system, so i was going to see about just doing modification of the existing template with my content for starters. That in itself is hard for me. I created a new static page, and figured out how to add it to the features tab along the top of the frontpage. Then I created a link to it from another page.

My question is, when in a static page, or any other content page for that matter, when you want to create a link to a page on your web site, what is the easiest way to grab the url?

Some of my sample content from the template look like this: www.envisionprintshop.com/index.php?opti...view&id=21&Itemid=42

and the link I used was this: www.envisionprintshop.com/content/view/56/81/ and it worked as well.

Just knowing where these pages are, and the links to them by "id" and "itemid" is confusing.

      Any tips?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

      Ken.

    • Hey Ken, I can only speak for myself, but I use the part of the link that is red:

      www.envisionprintshop.com/ index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=42

Joomla fills in the rest. Same for images that you add; you don't need to type the whole domain.
