Okay I have a friend who is starting a business in massage therapy. She is British and wants to have an English feel to the name so she decided that she wanted to call her business Mum's Massage, because the word Mum is English. I told her she should name it Bloody Good Massage because American's don't understand how bloody could be a swear word and they find if funny. This is the same theory that Fat Bastard Chardonnay used to become so popular. My friend doesn't know if that would be a good name because people might get offended, but I said that American's wouldn't find it offensive, so my friend settled on Jolly Good Massage instead. I was thinking that we could spell bloody differently to distract from the swear of it like spell it blutty or bludy, so I thought that I would ask around and see what people think.
Mum's Massage, Bloody Good Massage, Jolly Good Massage, Bludy Good Massage, which one would you most likely visit? Any opinions on a different name? And is Bloody Good Massage offensive (for the Americans)?
Thanks any help will be appreciated because I am going to be building a website for her with joomla. Thanks

Mum's Massage is good. American's are facinated with the British (as long as they hava a good accent).
I have a friend who called his Flower Business "Lady Di's" (before she died) and it did very well. So how about Lady Di's Massage?
If the name is catchy, people will remember you. If the service is bad, people will remember you. So have her do it right, and she'll have a goldmine.

I don't think it's necessary to change the spelling of 'Bloody' if you were going to use it in the business name. In fact, I'd recommend against it since it's likely to confuse at least a few people and very few Americans are even aware that it is an offensive word in England, and most of those who do won't consider it offensive anyway.
That being said, my opinions on the names you originally mentioned:
Jolly Good Massage = +++
Mum's Massage = ++
Bloody Good Massage = +++
I'm french so I can't really answer but it is for suggest you to add a poll by editing your first message questionning which is the favorite name among those you have proposed
Hmmm... though I don't agree with the last poster, they do have a couple of points. The first and most important being that you need to consider the region where the massage business will be. The more cosmopolitan the area, the less likely it will be that you'll get undesired associations with words like 'bloody' or 'mum' or 'jolly' and the more likely it will be that those words will have their intended appeal to the locals.
The second point actually came unintentionally from the poster before last, being that some people associate massage with erotic services (calling it "Happy Endings Massage" would obviously be a bad idea unless that's the sort of business you're going for ), which means it's probably a good idea to be aware of how the business is promoted to local perceptions to avoid that sort of thing.
So, where is the business going to be located, anyway? Any feedback or suggestions we have to offer could be much more targeted if we know the city or at least the region. *shrug* Just another couple of thoughts for you to consider, Phillip.
