I have been building a site, and will need another 160 hours to get it where I want it. I love the features of the BR, which I am not sure CB and GJ will be able to produce. I like the way when you read an article, the writers profile is displayed along with all articles by them.
Anyone know what they may be using to power it? I have written to them and hope to get some answers back soon.
I dont care for the design, gray and white? but that is the least of my problems. I like the layout.
I am basically looking to build a network of football writers and photographers. If you want me to be honest, the plan would be to have CB, GJ and anything else, build a community, build traffic, either go National or Sell it to someone that is national. Companies are always buying other websites. I figure 200,000 visitors a day and 200,000 member woul be worth $5,000,000 to someone.
Small dream I know. But i think I have the idea and a great domain name to do it. I have had the name for almost a year.

Re: Could Joomla! ever be able to do what this site does?
Posted 17 years 2 months ago
Yes, as far as I can see this can be done on joomla. Check out the ijoomla extensions. This site can be created using ijoomla's news portal component. However, I will point out that having the authors bio in each article can only be done at the moment with ijoomla's magazine, but again this looks like it actually is a joomla site. However for what you want to do the magazine would be the better option. You will also need ninjoomla's community builder templates because community builder by itself is not that great. Good luck and check out
www.ijoomla.com
and their extensions.
This plugin shows user details and other articles of the current one’s author. It’s very configurable and has a lot of parameters to suit different needs. It uses optional Mootools effects. The contact e-mail is encrypted using Javascript in order to avoid search engines indexing it. You can visit the homepage for screenshots. Note that this is the first beta release of the plugin and any feedback is appreciated. For now, available in English and Turkish. Translations are welcome. Joomla! 1.5 only.
I am running 1.0, but I would guess if I got in there and messed with the PHP I could get it to grab the info I need.
I also could use a plugin that puts a module inside content. I would use a module that displays an Authors info, articles, display that inside the content. There are also all kinds that link tot he authors profile, I would think instead of linking I could get the code to just display it, since it is grabbing the link, it is checking the database, so just have it display the image, articles and what ever. I am not PHP guru, but I think I could hack at it for 10 hours of those 160 and get it to work, prefer and easier method that takes 1 hour.
