HTML Editor not very WYSIWYG at all

Hi again everyone. I hope to switch to answering from questioning in the next few months, but here's another one:
I can't remember if this was always the case (it seems I've been working on my site forever), but the embedded WYSIWYG editor doesn't seem to do a very good job at all of representing what the actual text will look like on page. The styles are all off, spacing, some links not showing as blue and underlined (although you can edit link info). In general, it's a mess and I often have to go into the code to see what's going on.
I'm terribly afraid that I might have caused this problem with all the IE6 (thank you MSFT) tweaking that I've had to do. Can someone tell me if I'm off my rocker or was the WYSIWYG editor always that flaky.

- I would check out other WYSIWYG Editors, although I don't use it since I hard code special looks to my articles, I know there are better ones at www.joomla.org under Extensions

I need to take that one for a test drive. I got used to FCK in my asp.net life, so I went with that one, when I use one.

JCE is def- one of the best out there - especially with the donation extensions.
All the extensions are not working in Joomla 1.5 yet, but they should in near future.
Btw one way to make the editor a little more WYSIWYG is to change the editor width to the same width of the content column on your site (in case it's a fixed width template).
The layout will at least show how it will look on the site.
You could try and copy some of the content CSS details from the site template into the content css file of the editor and I am sure it will pick the right styles up.

- I have to say that i tried the new version of FSK and it did a nice job of producing XHTML output. It's come along way from the days when we used it before.

FCK is pretty light resource-wise, too...and the spell checker is godsend for dummies like myself with an inability to spell hetroskedasticity properly...use it with the German language add-on, too. ...and love (or at least more used to) the way it handles inserting images and uploading them, too.

The spell checker in the google toolbar works wonders! 'cept Joomla is not in the dictionary! - Thanks,
