Installing a component/extension package

    • Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am ready to start adding a few extensions to my media mogul site and can't seem to do it. I've tried:

      1. installing the .zip file from the backend install
      2. installing an unzipped file (but I don't know which file I should use) from the backend
      3. Using my FTP client to upload the whole directory to www.mysite.com/joomla/components/

None of these options worked. I'm sure there is a very obvious solution, I just can't figure it out. Thanks for your help.

    • You didn't mention receiving any error messages, are you following these steps?

What are you trying to install?

      1. Download the extention / component from joomla.org, or where ever [!! You don't have to unzip it!!]

      2. From the Admin CP > Extentions > Install / Uninstall > Upload Package File

      3. Browse to the zipped extention / component you downloaded in Step 1, click Open, the path to the zipped file will appear in the Package File text field.

      4. Click on Upload File and Install - Joomla will unzip the file and install everything automatically.

At this point one of two things will happen:

You'll get a happy blue message with something like 'Installed Successfully', or a not so happy red message stating an error, could be anything from 'no XML file present' to 'wrong version' etc.

Note: It depends on the component / module / plug-in, but once you get the happy blue message, you still may have one more step!

Components are usually ready to go right after an install and you can find them right after they are installed. (Ex: DocMan)

Modules have to be published or added:
      Extensions > Module Manager >
If you see your new module here, there's a 'green check', not a 'red x'. click on it to set its position and menus, etc.

If it's not there, click on New, this will take you to the installed Modules that can be added, find the newly installed module, click on it, click on next, follow the instructions, fill in the necessary info.

      Plugins have to be enabled:
Extentions > Plugin Manager > find the newly installed plugin and make sure there's a 'green check', not a 'red x'.

    • Thanks for your reply. Sounds like I have a permissions problem instead of an install problem. This is the error I'm receiving when I upload the zipped file:

      * JFTP::store: Bad response
      * Warning! - Failed to move file

I'm trying to install JEvents and Sermon Speaker (I might switch to LeBlanc's podcast).
