inserting an image

can someone help me with the simple task of inserting an image, i have my page and click insert image, yet i dont know the correct path for images, they are in stories so i type this link and all i get is a box with the red cross in, i have tried severl paths to try and get it to work but no luck.
doesnt seem as straight forward as the old version where you cold selevt the image in media manager and get the correct path to pat in to the insert image field.
any help would be much appreciated, thanks
