Menu title overriding page title parameters for 'Home' menu item on frontpage

Posted 16 years 10 months ago
    • I've gone through every available setting I know of or that has been suggested...

Admin > Site > Global Configuration : Site Title
Menu > mainmenu > Home > Page and/or Item title
Content > Frontpage Manager > Content Item > Title
Content > Static Content > Content Item > Title
Content > Article Manager > Article > Title

No matter what my page titles are, set to show the page title or not, the frontpage of the site is pulling the 'Home' menu item title as the page title to be displayed in the title header bar of both Firefox and IE. I know it is the menu title that is being displayed, because if I change the menu title to something else, it will display that in the title header bar. This is not the case for any other page on the site, each of which are pulling the page title parameter I designate under the article system parameters settings.

Please visit www.genereed.org to get a better idea of what I am referring to. The homepage simply says 'Home' in the title bar, but if you click "Our Organization" in the main navigation, the title reads "Gene Reed Enterprises | About our organization".

Whats weird is that when I first installed this template, edited some content and what not, the frontpage displayed my preferred title appropriately. Recently, however, the title changed on its own and I cannot pinpoint whether the change occurred after any additional plugin/module installation or what. If this is not a template specific problem, has anyone encountered a solution via Joomla.org, as searching their site, I only found the common issue of needing to change the MainMenu--->Home--->Parameters/System--->Page Title.

      Thanks guys!

    • I found this post searching for solution to a similar problem. I found a workaround that works!

My issue was that I couldn't change the names of the browser page titles for wrappers. The title would only appear as the name that I specified as the menu item. Also, the wrapper's system parameter that allows showing a page title only places the title in plain text above the wrapped web page and didn't reflect in the browser's page title.

The solution is to create an "Alias" menu item that points to a menu item on a hidden (non published) menu that has the name of what you would like the page title to be.

How I fixed this for myself:
I moved the existing menu item (with the unwanted title name) to a new unpublished menu called "wrappermenu". Then I changed it's item name to "Website name | page name". Then, on the original menu, I created a new "alias" menu item, titled with the old name, and pointed it to the renamed menu item on the hidden "wrapper menu". Since the hidden menu is never published, the 'longer' name will not be seen in any published menu.

I only needed the fix for wrappers, but this should work for properly changing any page title for any menu item on any menu.

      Cheers!

    • This works great for any other link, but for some reason, "Home" is still displaying in the titlebar even if an alias redirect is used to an unpublished menu.

The only thing that changes the pagetitle at this point is to change the name of the Home menu link itself, which I prefer not to do.

      Any other suggestions?
