I wanted to write down my experiences for my recent trip to America, I will probably be adding to this but just a *little* blog type post on my experiences. In particular, the differences between the UK and the US. You may find it interesting

I enjoyed reading about your visit to the States, James!
In the US:
scones are biscuits
biscuits are cookies
crisps are chips
chips are french fries
digestives are crackers
and crackers are not party favors
If you want a lift, you're needing an elevator but Americans think you need a ride to some place.
Strange but fun place, we are. I'll bet you had more money here than there, the US Dollar is worth almost half as much as the british pound right now.
Sounds like you had an exciting visit!

- good stuff. i had no idea you were heading to the US. I will say though, it's a shame you landed in St. Louis for your first trip/impression. No offense to Missouri but there are much nicer places to visit.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about those! lol...
And what's more fun than watching an American in a roundabout? We do have some of those here, and people don't know how to use them. I've seen cars in empty ones in Colorado Springs going around and around and around. . . all that's missing is carousel music and brass rings!

Yeah, the States are so huge it's hard to get a clear impression of what the states are 'really like'.
I'm from the States myself, born and raised in Massachusetts, but even traveling around New England there's a big difference between Boston (MA) and Bangor (ME). <fast paced vs. laid back>
I recently visited Georgia for the first time and got a taste of Southern hospitality.... reminds me of the suburbs of Boston 20 years ago.
Unless you really travel around, you can't get the picture.... Like that story of the seven blind men describing an elephant...
Anyway....
Yes, James the portions are HUGE!! Super Size me!!
I've been in Japan now for over 12 years.
The first few years I was here I couldn't wait to get back home for a 'real meal'.
Now when I go back, I have a bit of 'reverse-culture-shock'.
In the ten days I spent in GA & MA this summer, we went out to eat five times, and every time I found it impossible or nearly impossible to finish the meal that was served.
(I'm 6'1" / and a 'healthy' 190 Lbs)
Twice in the afternoon I kind of forced myself to finish and skipped dinner those nights.
Three times in the evening I ate half and took the rest home...
Maybe my stomach has shrunk over the year, but I still can't get over the size of the portions that I used to consider 'normal'. - Thanks,

I said the same thing...wish he would have come to DC to see the sights (not that there is anything wrong with Missouri).
..or NYC, Florida, California, et al.
