Latest News issue with Top Headlines

I set the Latest News module for the Top Headlines to pull from a section AND to show front page articles. However when I select a story from a completely different section and check it to show on the front page, it does not get listed in the Top Headlines. I'd really don't want to have to copy a story from other sections into the section that the Top Headlines is pulling from - I'd just like to select it as a front page story to show.

does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this? THis way we don't have to copy every story into 2 sections so it shows up in both places...
