Help with Patching Joomla

    • I have a site that is joolla 1.5.1 and I want to upgrade to 1.5.7. I have a backup of the site and I have downloaded the zipped patch. The thing I don't understand is that the patch has an images folder, a templates folder, a modules folder and a plugins folder. If I select them and send them to my site with WSFTP and it overwrites them, won't I lose the images I have added to the remote folder, lose my Dimensions template that has been modified and lose the extra modules or plugins I have??

    • Joomla patches normally just affects (Joomla) PHP files as far as i know. You should be ok but do a full backup anyway :)

I've never had any issues with overwritten image files etc. when upgrading Joomla...

    • Thanks, I tried it last night and failed because my connection was too slow. It finally shut down on me and it wouldn't reconnect so I went to the back-up. This morning I tried it on a faster connection and it worked fine.

    • I'm with prim, never having a problem patching Joomla. Though I always do a full backup, to include all files and a full db backup, I would feel comfortable doing it without, though don't advise it. ;) It's usually flawless.

I always take the site offline during the pathing process, too....
