Users sending email to groups - Yahoo! Groups-esque

I am replacing our Yahoo Groups site for a Joomla-based one and one very important feature for my community is the ability to post messages for everyone to receive. My challenges are as follows:
1. Using Fireboard requires users post replies to a standing topic everytime b/c users only see posts to topics they've subscribed to.
2. Dada Mail only allows the administrator to send mass email messages.
3. Optimally, a user could use Gmail or Outlook or Thunderbird and send a message to "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." and everyone would get it and I could manage it centrally. No idea how to do this.
Any ideas???

First of all, with Fireboard users can subscribe to a board, not just a topic.
Second, Fireboard is no longer on the Joomla Extensions directory because of security issues they will not acknowledge or fix.
I once tried to install Dada and decided it was not worth the learning curve.
I have a site that sends email to a Yahoo group via a form.
How about a SMF board like RocketThemes? I subscribe to certain boards and get all new posts via email.
