    https encryption for contact form?

Posted 16 years 5 months ago
    • How can I specify the use of 'https' for encryption purposes on something like a contact form .... or is it really needed? That is, can info entered on an standard http form (if not using https) be intercepted by scammers, etc?

Not really a RT issue, but appreciate any thoughts .... RW

    • I guess first you would need SSL encryption for your site. If you do'nt, then the point can be mute. Some hosts provide a shared SSL (Rochen.com for example) so your not required to have your own. If you do, even better.

What component are you using to create the form? Some have a setting that will automatically run it under https.

    • Using Qcontacts (latenight-coding.com), an excellent, simple-to-use add-on. I couldn't locate a setting under their parameters .... but I'll check w/them. Will also check w/host Hostgator regarding SSL encryption.

      Thanks for the response, Moxx.

I'm not real famalair with Qcontacts, but does it give you a url of your form? If so, maybe just fold that into an External link on the menu and adjust the url to have HTTPS in it. Not the prettiest way, but it gets the job done.

    • Moxx,
Your alternative looked like a possible workaround and I was in the process of trying out .... but as I dove into the Menu Manager to change to an external link I did find that the QContact menu-type offered a System Parameter for SSL on/off .... just like you said could be somewhere. I had been looking in the Component Parameters for Qcontacts. I just have to get SSL enabled on the host side now.

Thank you again for working me thru this.
      Take Care, RW

    • Joomla Forms (commercial component) do the job. SSL support and possibility to use GPG encryption. I'm starting to use this component on my website. Very good.
