    Latest Additions - Selectable Section/Category

Posted 16 years 4 months ago
    • I am looking for a component/plugin for Joomla that I can put into a module that will show a list of the latest articles from a selected section or category. The items in the list will be links to the text of the article - when clicked, the article will open.

I can find a number of Latest News extensions for Joomla, but I can't find one that lets me select the section or category. They all seem to show all new additions - or am I missing something obvious?

      Can anyone help?

    • Alpha Content is what I use :cheesy: when using any of the mods, and even the component, you need to add in the ID's for sections and cats to include or exclude sections and cats.... once you get the hang of it it is fairly simple and gives you complete control.

    • Alpha Content suggested by CG Icon is great and I recommend it as well... but the built-in Joomla module "Latest News" does what you ask (If I understand you correctly).

      See attached screenshot.

    • yes it does,, it is just that alpha gives greater global control,,, you can get the same control with native joom... but you really really have to think through your section-->cats-->items beforehand

      just my opinion

    • I thank you very much for the suggestions. I am very grateful that you took the time to help me. :D

And I am rather embarrassed  for not checking the new capability of the Latest News module in Joomla 1.5 - I assumed wrongly that it did not allow me to select the section/category that I wanted to display.

But I've found out about Alpha Content, which I know that I'll have a place for on at least one of my sites!! :) Thanks to everyone.

    • It's a glaring bug that this default joomla module was never updated with the category_id and section_id widgets that actually show a dropdown of the names rather than having to enter the id manually.
